Is it possible to store oil (crude or refined) in a container. My uncle built a shelter and he wants to store oil in it that needs to last 50 years and still stay fresh. I don't think it is possible, does anyone know?

  1. diesel stored underground with a fuel saver will do the trick.

  2. This is more a compliance and regulatory issue. Long term storage of chemicals (oil is chemicals) at size you referred to is subject to federal and state regulations. Check with the local authorities first. Think about the environmental damage should the containment leaks.

  3. Yes.  In fact, the US has a huge one called the Strategic Petroleum Reserve.   Like the other guy said, it's the law and safety you have to worry about.  I actually calculated that for the rest of my life I'll need about 20,000 gallons of gasoline.  That would cost me $80,000 to buy not including the place to store it all.  I wonder if any billionaires have done this yet.
