Saving bad dvds, help please?

Hi. I made a mistake of buying some really badly made dvds and they keep freezing and jumping on my dvd player. I tried them on my pc dvd drive and they are absolutely fine. Does anyone know how I could 're-do' them so I could watch them on my tv please? Needless to say, I will not be buying anymore of these dodgy stuff in future. Thank you,

  1. That may just mean that the laser in your DVD player is a bit dirty.  If it's the type of DVD player that allows you access to the laser, you may want to try cleaning it.

Otherwise, you may want to try burning copies of the DVDs that are giving you problems.  Since you said that your PC can read them fine, you can probably create some .ISO images of them without errors.  Once you do this, you can burn them onto some blank DVDs.  Do this at the lowest possible speed that your DVD burner supports.  Ideally, you will want to burn them at 1x or 2x speed, but your burner may not allow this.  4x may also work.

  2. Well, you can remaster the DVDs on your PC, and try to play copies in your standalone player. Look up AutoGK and check out doom9.org for software and information.

  3. You stated that it plays fine on your PC's DVD but not so on your DVD player... first, try cleaning the lens of your DVD player. I am sure any computer retail store can point you to a good cleaning system. Believe it or not, this could be your problem- since it plays well in one drive and it skips in another. Try cleaning the DVD where the lens play with a soft cloth- getting rid of any smudges as well. If that doesn't help, try another blank DVD brand. Keep in mind that there are DVD- and DVD + which are two type of formats that different DVD players play. As for me, tested on many DVD players and drives, the DVD- has worked in all. Here is more info on that http://www.dvd-supply.com/whisdvdvdvan.h... My recommendation on good blank DVDs are Sony. If you want to save money, buy the Great Quality brand at Frys for half price- and are manufactured by Sony as well. You can sometimes get 100 DVDs for $15 at Fry's. OfficeMax and Office Depot sometimes have a good sale on blank DVDs as well. Now to answer your question, to make a copy of your badly DVDs you will need a DVD writer and FREE software. Use DVD Shrink, to shrink a movie to under 4 gb, DVD Decrpyter to burn your movie to a blank DVD. I didn't list a anti-CSS since you said they were badly made (burned).... Good luck, i hope it helps.
