I am on a budget and I am trying to figure how much it costs per load to wash my clothes using a homemade laundry detergent vs. commerical detergents.

Here is the problem.

Tide - costs $5.00 per 100 ounces to wash 26 loads.( 0.19 cents per load)

Homemade laundry detergent:

55 ounces ounces in arm and hammer washing soda - $2.35

76 ounces in borax - $2.59

1 bar of ivory - $0.33 cents per bar.

= $5.27 total

I mix one batch of 1/2 cup of arm and hammer washing soda, 1/2 cup of borax, and 1 bar of ivory soap. There are 28 tablespoons of this mixture in one batch. I use 4 tablespoons per load. This "one batch" = 7 loads of laundry..

So how much is it to wash my clothes per load with this homemade laundry detergent?
