  1. The world doesn't need "saving" buddy -- only the human animals living on it might or might not (depending on who you ask).  If every human animal on the planet died, then the world would keep on trucking along.

    Don't forget that.

So to answer your question ... it doesn't really matter.  Living a lifetime doing something you believe in is always a respectable thing, but perhaps the person who "just pushed a button" also worked up for it.  You're not giving his/her context so your question is biased.

  2. Better is a comparitive judgement - what do we define good to mean, and then which is the most good?

I have a utilitarian view of the world, which means that doing the most 'good' for the most people will always be the better thing.

If by saving the world we mean stopping global warming, world hunger, disease, torture etc...then that's a lot of people having a lot happier lives, therefore saving the world is the best.

The person doing all the hard work to keep his family from starvation is very worthy and deserves commendation, however once that button is pushed he can take a well earned rest.

  3. LOL. Pushing a button only take one second.

What is he going to do with the rest of the day ?

    Work to feed his family.

    He need to do both.
