Savvy Supreme winning her two-turn debut in the Monmouth Oaks under John Velazquez
The 3-year-old filly Savvy Supreme running in the 1 1/16 miles for the first time in her career, converted the two turn debut into a winning one at Monmouth Park in the Grade 3 $159,000 Monmouth Oaks on 13 August, 2011.
Savvy Supreme who started her career in the spring of 2011, failed to convert her maiden in her first attempt at Gulfstream Park on 20 February, 2011, over at a distance of 6 ½ furlongs.
The daughter of Distorted Humor broke her maiden over at a distance of 6 furlongs at Gulfstream Park on 2 April, 2011, under jockey John Velazquez she clocked in the final time of 1 minute and 9.75 seconds.
Out of Outsource by Storm Bird, the Todd Pletcher trained filly won her first stakes race at 18 May, 2011, when she landed the Classy Mirage over six furlongs at Belmont Park.
The Monmouth Oaks was the filly’s first graded stakes win of her career, as she surged from behind to get into the midway entering the final turn she went on to lead by a single length turning for home.
The favoured Miss Valentine was successfully held off by Savvy Supreme as the champion filly started drifting out in the lane, as Elvis Trujillo zoomed in from the right side.
In all the commotion, Savvy Supreme somehow wandered off into the path of the favourite Miss Valentine, while she was making a run for it.
The drift raised concerned in the minds of the stewards but it was decided after reviewing it that the drift did not affect the outcome of the race so, Savvy Supreme stood the race winner.
She won the race by 1 ¾ lengths over Miss Valentine and completed the distance of 1 1/16 miles in 1 minute and 43.27 seconds.
My Sunshine Gal and Coco Ecolo went quickly out of the gates as they made fast fractions, but Savvy Supreme was able to sit in third and track the two. It worked perfectly well for the Todd Pletcher trained filly.
