Saw a kitten?

My mom was coming home from work and saw a kitten by the garbage can its face was dirty and black she felt sad and wanted to feed it, recently we had a pet stray cat that we used to feed everyday but we never saw it again and she did'nt want her heart to break again by feeding this kitten we have like 3 cans of cat food for it but we don't know if its ready for that kind of food yet What should we feed it?

chances are if the kitten is off by itself, it is ready for commercial cat food.  canned is easier to eat, and actually better for them than dry, but seeing as this is a street kitten, something is better than nothing.

However, feeding it does make it your responsibility.  It would be in the kitty's best interest to be taken in.  Either by you or to a shelter.  So many dangers living on the streets, it is no life for any soul.

I agree that if you can't bring it inside then try to catch it and take it to a shelter.

If you can bring it inside then that will be so much safer for it and lessen your chances of going through what you did before.  

You can wash him with Dawn dish soap to get him clean and help kill off the fleas - most flea baths are not safe for small kittens but Dawn is gentle enough for them.  Then get him to the vet to make sure he's healthy.  Get a blood test and get him dewormed.  If he's old enough and strong enough he can get his first set of vaccinations too.  

We recently came across a little 5 wk old kitten in the median of a busy road.  We went by the steps I just said and now it's almost 3 weeks later and he's a happy, adorable part of the family.  Apart from confusing plastic shopping bags with the litter box a couple times, he's been pretty perfect at living indoors - and the mistakes are my fault for leaving the bags out.

If you do find him again just use the food you already have and if you keep him then get some kitten food for him.  I don't know the best brands but at least try to find something that has actual meat and not meat by product as the first ingredient. Canned food is great and since he was out wandering around he's probably big enough to eat dry food too.

if it is a kitten you should capture it and bring it to a no kill shelter that way nothing will happen to it! Good Luck!

Canned cat food is a lot better than what it's probably eating on the street. I would feed it and if you can't take care of it you can take it to a no kill shelter. At least it will be off the street. Poor little kitty. :(
