Sawdust in the bottem of budgie cage?

Im getting budgies soon, is it okay if i put sawdust (or woodchips) on the bottem of their cage. i have a tonne left over from by bunny.

  1. I wouldn't recommend it. Wood chips make the cage look cleaner than it actually is, meaning you clean it less often. This results in more bacteria. Plain old newspapers or paper towels are all you need.


  2. I would not do this. Paper towels or newspaper is the best to use. Sawdust is to dusty and can irritate birds respiratory tract and wood chips can harbor to much bacteria. Good luck.

  3. Hello.

    I usually put Pine shavings, not cedar , cedar has an odor will kill the babies birds  ( buy at Wal_mart ) so it would absorb the dirty things in the bottom of the cage  and clean it every other day . It works great.  Try it and you may like it .TM.

  4. I dont think its ok to put sawdust under their cage cause they might try to eat it if its really small but i think woodchips would be better as long as they dont try to eat it but they really dont need anything at the bottom of their cage
