Sax or drums? Which is easier to learn?

Question

I have a son who has aspergers autism. He gives up very easily when things get to difficult. He wants to be in the middle school band with his friends. He is trying to choose between the sax and drums. Being his parent, I believe that he needs something that he can succeed at playing. Either will be difficult for him, but I am looking for something that he might stick with for a while.

I think drums because you just kinda need to learn what each sound each of the drums make and your ready to play! I hope this helped.

Drums, very difficult to pick up unless you have good eye hand coordination, like from karate. I think he's more likely to stick at sax, and having my 14 year old play drums, I can swear it's quieter too!

The drums would be very good for u'r son. I know what its like having someone with autism in the family. I have a 18 year old uncle who has autism. Best of luck man. I hope u'r son will like drums if he chooses it.

definitely drums are easier.  sax is a pretty hard instrument.

the drums are the fastest i knew how to play it in days like 3 or 4 days it really fun also

Drums are easy to learn but they need focus to not go wild... it takes patience in the start... going at realy slow borning pieces... but sax seems hard...he may do well at sax...

I would say try the alto sax. The drums can be very difficult, and where I went to school- a prerequisite of playing the piano was enforced. Plus, with drums, you are kind of by yourself and really keep the band moving. The alto is easier to learn time/notes and he will also be able to listen to the other players. Not to mention, with the drums- he probably will play different instruments (perhaps NOT drums) for each piece. Honestly, I would go for the sax- but everyone is different. I really give you BOTH props for looking into this, and showing everyone that everyone is equal!

Probualy drums it fairlly easy to learn but if he has A LOT of trouble switch to Sax because autistic kids can go crazy on the drums.
