  1. If the parents are providing the basics, they may be trying to teach her how expensive it ts to shop for junk food that she likes and are limiting the amount of money she gets to spend on junk. Its a valuable lesson to a child who only wants microwave processed food. I did this with my children at about the same age and they found out real quick that wholesome foods and a little work in the kitchen went a lot further on the grocery bill. grocerys are so expensive and children need to learn early about how to save every dollar they have. I hope this is what this parent is trying to do.

  2. How the heck would a 11 year old kid go shop by herself? by the way, that kid's parents should try to be better parents and care for her some more. Instead of letting her go around and take of their food! Please excused me but I'm kind of pissed off to hear that. }:{

  3. Is she shopping for all of her own food or just a few items that she particularly likes that her parents don't want to pay for?  "Normal" would be if her parent(s) provided the basics and she bought her own "treat foods."  If she is expected to shop for all of her own food, I would call that a bit out of the ordinary.

  4. I suppose it would be okay depending on what items she is buying at the grocery store. The only thing that comes to mind as being abnormal is if she is fed by her parents and why she has to buy her own groceries, necessity or something she likes doing?

  5. not really, parents don't usually have there kids pay for food with there own money but if it is her choice then it is ok but it isn't normal

  6. Sometimes its done out of necessity. When I was 12 I mowed lawns, shoveled walks and had a paper route. Coming from a big family and very poor our parents couldn't afford everything. So we were all obligated to pay certain things in our family. Very few in this generation has had to know what its like not to have everything handed to them. So maybe this girls family needs the help. Be thankful your not in that position. I used to know a kid that used to get beat by his dad if he didn't bring home money, that was sad and he was only 13. So again it all depends on where you live and what you have or not have.

  7. no, that does not seem normal. but is she buying stuff for just her or her household? if its herself then that seems more normal. if its for her household, no it does not seem normal.

  8. That wouldn't be normal for a 17 year old let alone a 11 year old.

    It is a bit strange, I don't know how an 11 year old has enough money to grocery shop on her own.

    I am not sure this is entirely true, you cannot get any type of job at 11, at least no in the US.

  9. i guess she is trying to be older. its either that or she is having problemms at home and she is trying to make a point to her parents.

  10. I hate to say it is not normal, so I say most 11 year olds dont do that, but I am sure she is proud of her money and feels very grown up to be able to do that

  11. Sure, if she is mature enough to accomplish this task.

  12. I guess if her basic needs are being met by her parents & their groceries, that's fine.  Like if she's just buying her few favorite foods that her parents don't like to buy all the time, that's perfectly fine.  However, if she's bringing home ALL the food she eats, that's not normal.  I'm guessing, though, that the majority of her money comes from her parents anyway,so it's just a different kind of way for her parents to pay for "her groceries."  Depending on if what I said above is true & she isn't buying absolutely everything she's eating, it's just like her parents are giving her an allowance to buy the food she wants.

  13. Why does it matter if it's "normal"?? Um, I guess it isn't because most don't even have their own money to spend.

    I started shopping for my own stuff around thirteen. Not really "groceries" but I bought all kinds of stuff including food.

    Didn't worry about if it was "normal"
