Sayaka Sato beats Petya Nedelcheva to penetrate into Women’s Singles quarter-final at Singapore Open
Japan’s talented player Sayaka Sato proved her mettle and powered her way into Women’s Singles quarter-final after defeating Petya Nedelcheva of Bulgaria in pre-quarter-final clash at the Singapore Open Super Series on Thursday, June 21, in Singapore.
The seventh seeded Sayaka, who is currently World Number 14 in Women’s Singles rankings, was too strong for the Bulgarian who participated in the tournament as a qualifier.
The higher ranked Sayaka showed her aggression in the court and gave a severe lesson to her lower ranked Bulgarian challenger in a one-sided straight-set contest by working for just 33 minutes in the court.
Petya, on the other hand, could not tackle the aggression of her higher ranked Japanese challenger and also failed to match the pace of rallies in the whole contest. She lost to her rival easily in straight sets with a comfortable difference on the score
board.
Sayaka started her journey against Petya in a confident manner in the first game as she took no pressure of being higher ranked player in the court.
The Japanese was in impressive form while playing against Bulgarian shuttler and managed to set up incredible lead of 11-6 until the one-minute interval.
After the break, the lower ranked Petya tried to live up to expectations as she geared up her speed but failed to place her shots accurately.
In the meanwhile, Sayaka continued her smooth run in the court and won the first game in an impressive fashion with a 21-13 score on the board.
However, Petya played better badminton in the second game as she took the bird early this time and did not let Sayaka to take a comfortable lead until the mid-game interval.
After the break, the Japanese lady injected power in her shots and also executed delicate strokes at net. She was pretty much in control of the game and made her rival work hard for every point.
Sayaka was calm and collected and eventually bagged the second game with a six-point advantage of 21-15.
The higher ranked Japanese lady won this round-of-16 contest in two games with a smashing 21-13 and 21-15 margin on the board.
