Sayaka Sato ousts Alina Artamonova in Women’s Singles second round of the Russian Open Grand Prix
Japan’s emerging shuttler, Sayaka Sato, crushed Alina Artamonova of Russia, in the Women’s Singles second round of the 2011 Russian Open Grand Prix, in Russia, on Thursday, June 30, 2011.
The top seed, Sayaka, who is currently placed at Number 19 in the Women’s Singles world rankings, surprised everyone as she consumed just 16 minutes in beating the local shuttler, in a straight-set one-sided contest.
The Japanese proved that she belongs to the highest class of elite shuttlers, as she won the match in remarkable fashion through the superb demonstration of her badminton skills.
Right from the start of the game, Sayaka controlled the pace of the rallies and made her opponent struggle hard to pick the well-placed strokes. Sayaka employed all of her skills to end the game by wasting no time in the court.
In the first set, Sayaka played fabulous badminton and progressed with a surprising speed, as her opponent failed to put up any sort of resistance throughout the game. Artamonova found herself helpless against the power-play of the Japanese, who was not
slowing down the pace of the rallies.
On many occasions, Artamonova was miles away from getting the bird as she was not moving fast in the court. Sayaka worked really well in the first set by playing to her full potential and finished the game with a dramatic margin of 21-1, by taking just seven
minutes of court time.
In the following set, Artamonova tried to resist in the starting points, but failed as her physical fitness was not ideal against the aggressive Japanese. Sayaka continued her dominance in the second set and reached at 11-3 in a flash.
After the break, the top seed kept dominating her opponent in similar fashion and spared no chance for Artamonova to become stable at the base line in the court. Sayaka impressively finished off the second set with a 21-6 margin, in just 9 minutes. The 16-minute
contest ended with a 21-1 and 21-6 score on the board.
