Sayaka Takahashi proves too strong for Jing Yi Tee in the qualifying round of Thailand Open GP Gold
Japan’s Sayaka Takahashi proved her worth against Jing Yi Tee of Malaysia in the Women’s Singles qualifying round of the 2011 Malaysia Open GP Gold, in Thailand, on Tuesday, June 7.
The Japanese delivered a terrific performance against Jing Yi, who seemed completely out of sorts against her opponent and not surprisingly, lost the rubber-set match in 50 minutes.
The match opened in an interesting fashion as both shuttlers drew the attention of the crowd by playing powerful strokes. Cracking sounds of the powerful smashes were heard, coupled with perfectly placed straight and cross court drop shots.
The score progressed without giving any considerable lead to any shuttler in the first part of the opening game. Takahashi was playing an attacking game, whereas Jing Yi played with precision and utilised every opportunity to score points.
Both ladies were matching the speed of the game and reached at 20-20. At this crucial stage of the game, the Japanese put more pressure on the Malaysian and forced her opponent into making unforced errors. As a result, Takahashi came out on top and won the
first set 24-22, in 19 minutes.
Stung by the loss of the starting set, Jing Yi, who is currently placed at 122 in the Women’s Singels world rankings, fought back in the second game by playing to her full potential. She remained ahead of her Japanese opponent throughout the set by playing
aggressively. She scored many points by dominating the game at the net. The Japanese failed to play well in the second set and lost it by a difference of 17-21, in 16 minutes.
Takahashi produced top quality badminton in the deciding set of the match though, where she made no mistake in the entire game. Right from the start of the set, the Japanese controlled the rallies from and finished the game by a margin of 21-14, in just
15 minutes. The final score of the match was; 24-22, 17-21 and 21-14 score on the board.
