Sayaka Takahashi tames Yu Wakita to claim Women’s Singles title at Maldives International
Japan’s Sayaka Takahashi firmly registered her supremacy in the arena when she secured Women’s Singles title after crushing her lower ranked country-mate Yu Wakita in the final showdown of Maldives International Badminton Challenge 2012 in Maldives, on Sunday,
May 3.
Sayaka, who was top seeded shuttler in Women’s Singles draw in Maldives International, continued her winning run in the tournament and easily grabbed the title by winning the final match with a good margin.
The top seeded Japanese shower her wonderful craft in the court and remained successful in beating her team-mate in two games while taking the court time for 35 minutes.
On the other hand, Wakita put up a good fight in the opening set and lost it with a decent margin. However, she could not dominate the pace in the second set and lost the battle to her higher ranked team-mate in straight games.
In the opening game, both ladies started to put up thrilling show when they played aggressive badminton and also remained close to each other until the one-minute break.
Sayaka tried to take an early lead but she faced tough resistance from her spirited team-mate and failed to create any gap.
After the mid-game interval, Sayaka showed her elite skills in the court as she played with aggression this time and managed to push her rival in all corners of the court.
The top seeded Japanese was dominating the pace of rallies at the ending phase of opening set and took the game with a four-point margin of 21-17.
In the second set, Sayaka played to her maximum potential but again failed to set up a comfortable lead until the mid-game interval.
After the break, the higher ranked Japanese played with a complete control as she accelerated her speed. She took the bird early and played with variations which disturbed the flow of Wakita.
Sayaka remained positive and focused in the court and she eventually took the second set with a wonderful 21-16 score on the board.
The top seeded Sayaka grabbed the title after beating Wakita in straight games with a comfortable margin of 21-17 and 21-16.
