Question:

Scab on kitten needs healing

by  |  earlier

I have two kittens and about a week ago they were playing kind of rough and one of them got a decent scab on his neck (back side) and it starts to heal and then he ends up scratching at it and opening it back up. Any suggestions on a way to keep him from messing with it or a way to help it heal faster would be great! Thanks a bunch.

  1. In cases that we've had around here I've just made certain that the cats nails were kept trimmed so that scratching wouldn't cause such damage; and have you been applying anything to the wound?  You can use Neosporin (the cream works best) just as you would on yourself and apply it to the wound, rub it in a little, as many times a day as you can.

That will help speed up the healing process as well as keep it from itching so much while it heals.

    Hope this helps.

Added: Great idea that you took off the collar.  If you've done that then just keep applying the Neosporin and as long as it isn't looking infected, give it a little more time.

  2. My kitten did this awhile ago, it would heal and then come back and heal and then come back... I took her to the vet to get an antibotic to make sure it didn't get infected and then I just kept my eye on it, eventually it healed up fine it took awhile though bc she kept scratching the scab off.  Good Luck!
