  1. More information suck as type/age of dog, conditions in which it lives etc, would be helpful.

If it's scratching a lot, and has been near any trees, I would take her to the vet and have her checked for sarcopic mange, also known as canine scabies.  This is something that can only be treated with medicine.

  2. Could be anything from mange to mites, allergies to fleas and anything in between. You need to take your dog to a vet for proper treatment..

  3. vet,, might be mange

  4. I agree with the others.

  5. Oh, man, this could be so many different kinds of things!  It would help if you could tell where on the dog's body the scabs and hair loss are.  IF they are at the base of the dog's tail, on his back, and maybe on his hind legs, too...maybe some red measles looking spots?  Then it might be either a bad flea infestation or a flea bite allergy (FAD).  Step one is to get rid of the fleas on your dog, in your house, in your yard, where the dog sleeps.  Step two is to treat the dog with a flea repellent (some sprays are good for this) to keep the fleas off.  You will have to read the label to find out how often you can use it.  If that's not what your dog has, please re-post the question differently and maybe I can help.

  6. Take him to a vet immediately! He could have skin allergies....or worse, mange.

  7. This could be any of a number of things - flea allergy, allergy in general (need testing to isolate), thryroid disease, etc.  It could also be a type of mange.  Just hope that it is not sarcopte (sp) mange also known as "scabies".  This is a nasty little parasite that burrows into the skin and causes severe dermatitis and if left untreated becomes an extremely serious issue.  Scabies is also "contagious" to humans.

I would advise that you make an appointment with a vet as quickly as possible.  Even if your dog is clear of scabies, you still need to find out

what is causing this condition.  Your pet has got to be absolutely miserable.
