Scalping's and compression!?

Question

Can you whack scalping's down sufficiently in one go ( 5 inch deep car parking area) or should I spread say 3 inches, whack then spread another 2 and whacker plate it down again?

whacking in stages has a better compacting action and results in higher density than trying to do 52 in one go. results last longer etc.

Best to do it in 2 stages, could get away with 1 if it was a patio.
