Scan lines on 27" panasonic crt tv.?

Question

Started noticing horizontal white lines at the top 1/6 of picture which looks like it's only scanning every other line there. After an hour or so it decreases to about half the original area but never goes away. The set is only 8 yrs old and was hoping to keep it a couple more years before upgrading. Almost impossible to find a repairman for a set like that,even aside from the price. Is it on it's last legs? Any thoughts/advice would be welcome. Thanks.

You have at least one bad capacitor in the vertical deflection cicuit. Look around the Vertical IC and there will be a couple of high value capacitors between 100-1000 mfd and one is probably bad. You can usually figure out which one you need to replace by jumping another capacior of similar value across each one, one at a time until the picture looks right. Also check the solder connections first on the IC legs. Good luck
