Scandal hits NFL: Brett Favre and Jenn Sterger
Brett Favre is the very talented and legendary quarterback currently playing for the Minnesota Vikings. He has had an illustrious career and was ready to retire in style in a few years. Then Jenn Sterger entered his life and his world was turned upside down.
Sterger is a model and television personality who was employed by the New York Jets in 2008 to work as a reporter for the team. This was the same time that Favre was also employed by the Jets and it is claimed by Sterger that the quarterback sent her lewd
text messages, left explicit voicemails on her phone and sent her vulgar pictures of himself. This whole incident has put a serious dent on Favre’s career and will probably ruin his retirement party now.
Brett Favre is a highly decorated 20-year veteran of the game of American football, currently playing for the Minnesota Vikings. He had a great college career which led to him being drafted into the football league in 1991 by the Atlanta Falcons. He was
traded the next year over to the Green Bay Packers in the 1992 draft pick. He played with the Packers from 1992 to 2007 and started as the team’s quarterback in every game until he was eventually traded. In 2008, he was then traded to the New York Jets for
one season and then snapped up by the Vikings. Over his amazing time playing the game he has managed to rake up some very impressive stats and awards.
Playing in the NFL, Favre has made a record number of starts for his teams; a total of 288 consecutive times he has been the starting quarterback. He has been awarded the Most Valuable Player honour three consecutive times in his career and has led teams
he was playing for to eight division championships in the past. Besides these, he has also managed to get teams to five different NFC Championships and even two Super Bowls. He won two of the NFC Championships he played in and managed to secure one Super Bowl
title. Besides these, he holds a large number of NFL records such as most touchdown passes, most passes completed, most starts as a quarterback, most career victories along with many others. While playing with the Jets for that one fateful season, he happened
to meet a beautiful young reporter named Jenn.
Jenn Sterger is a model and television personality by profession but also does duties as a journalist, if need be. In the past she has been an online columnist for Sports Illustrated. In 2008, she was hired by the Jets to be their sideline reporter and interview
players as they came off the field after and during games. It was here that she met Favre. She has claimed that they exchanged phone numbers and then the trouble started. Sterger has alleged that the quarterback started to send her explicit pictures of himself
naked, would leave her vulgar voicemails on her phone and would send her suggestive text messages.
Favre was very disturbed by these allegations, and it could be a reason why he left the Jets for the Vikings. Sterger has said that she has proof but no one has seen the said proof so far. The NFL is investigating what exactly took place in 2008, and we
will find out what they decide to do once the investigation is over. This has not been good at all for the football player’s career, and he has been visibly shaken up by the whole seedy affair. Sterger has also not fared well, being fired by the Jets but being
a model and now celebrity, she will surely get a boost from the publicity.
We have seen various cases such as this over the last few months - from Wayne Rooney’s affair with a prostitute to members of the French football team visiting an underage prostitute; it has not been a good year for sports stars. It is still to be proved
whether Favre actually did anything wrong but maybe in the next few years all sports teams could benefit from a serious training programme on how to behave while in the public eye. It might be that due to such a training programme, the number of these types
of scandals would significantly reduce.
