Dear guys,

I just want to ask

is scanning some pages for the book, and send them to my friend violating the law?

will I be charged and imprisoned, arrested by polices, so on and so for?

I would like to see the complete document regarding that law

if someone can see it in the constitution may be

  1. Copyright laws are general designed to prevent somebody from profiting from the work of another.

Copying stuff for your own use is generally okay though you are not allowed to copy certain documents for any reason.

  2. If you are simply e-mailing a friend a few passages or pics from a magazine or a book without either of you publishing it as your own, you aren't going to be charged with anything.  Only if you tried to publish/sell the pics and the passages as your own work (fraud) or added them into other pics and passages in a work of your own without permission that was subsequently published, would you be in violation of copyright.

  3. You will not be arrested for scanning a page in a book. You could be sued civilly by the owner of the copyright, but that is unlikely for scanning a short passage.

You will not be criminally charged unless you mass produce the copied material and sell it for profit.

  4. There is a thing called "fair use". Under that you can scan and print out copyrighted material depending on the purpose of doing so. If your purpose is to provide a copy of the material so that your friend will not have to pay for it, then it may indeed be a copyright violation. If you make copies to sell, it is a violation of copyright.

In the instance of simply sharing some portion of a book with a friend so that the two of you can discuss the content, there is little chance that you would be charged for copyright violation.
