Scans reveal Nathan Hauritz out of ODI series, doubtful for the World Cup
Things are not looking good for Aussie spinner Nathan Hauritz after he dislocated his shoulder in the second ODI against England at Hobart on Friday, while diving to stop the ball in the outfield. The match was won by the hosts.
Yesterday, Cricket http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 (CA) did not have a clear picture of the extent of Hauritz’s injury because the scans were not available. However, the cricket management in Australia had hoped that the injury would not be serious
enough to cast doubts on the spinner’s availability for the International Cricket Council (ICC) World Cup 2011, jointly hosted by Indian, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bangladesh-c747.
However, today after getting Nathan’s shoulder scanned, the situation was quite clear: there was no way for the player to make a comeback in the remaining matches of the seven-match ODI series against the visiting England side.
There are also no guarantees that the player would be fit in time for the World Cup. This is surely bad news for CA, because the team is already under a lot of pressure owing to the fact that ’Mr. Dependable’, Michael Hussey is
also doubtful for the World Cup.
Briefing on the state of Hauritz, the team physiotherapist http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Alex-Kountouris-c43123 said, “Nathan had scans this afternoon following his shoulder dislocation yesterday. These scans are used to assess the amount of structural damage caused
by the dislocation and will help guide the treatment of this injury."
Kountouris further revealed that the team management would be consulting a specialist regarding Nathan’s case. "They have demonstrated moderate disruption of the supportive structures at the shoulder. We will now seek a specialist
opinion to determine the next course of action."
The team physio didn’t rule out the possibility of Hauritz taking part in the World Cup but insisted that once the healing process begins then he would be in a better position to predict when the player would be fit enough to take
part in competitive cricket again. “The treatment options include both conservative and surgical management. It is likely he will be unavailable for the remainder of the Commonwealth Bank Series and his availability for the ICC Cricket World Cup will be determined
in the coming weeks."
Talking on the recent situation of the young Hauritz, the Aussie stand-in skipper Michael http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Clarke-c51120 said, “It is a setback, though, because you want to keep playing as much cricket as you can and get as much form under your belt as
possible. Hopefully he'll be right for the World Cup - he'll play a big part in that."
Meanwhile, CA has called in left-arm spinner Xavier Doherty for the ODIs as a replacement for Hauritz. Doherty was discarded by Australia for the World Cup.
These are definitely not the best of times for Australia and the mighty kings of One-Day cricket will be in big trouble if their injured players – Ricky Ponting, Michael Hussey, Shaun Tait and Nathan Hauritz are not fit in time
to defend their World Cup.
