Scardy-Cat Problem...?

Hi I have a wonderful cat, Oreo, who we rescued about 8 years ago from people who abused her. Whenever my family (12 year and 3 year old girls 10 year old boy and parents) she comes out and is outgoing and happy and stuff but when people come she gets scared and runs away and hides. When people come I try and pet her and stuff but she hides inside the walls through a hamper thing and I don't want her to feel scared or anything and now we are taking care of our grandparents puppy a lot who is very hyper. So I was wondering if anybody and any suggestions to help me help her become more friendly with strangers. But I do love her so much and right now she's sitting with me rubbing against me while I type but when people come she's gone.

Thanks!

  1. I have a cat like this also. His name is Roosevelt. I got him as a

kitten and when he was young he was not afraid of anything. However as he grew older he became more timid. He will run and hide from a lot of my friends.I tried to put him on medication to get him to calm down and be less tense. He calmed down and was less tense all right. To the point that he was lethargic and didn't move at all. I had to make a choice to have a timid cat or a medicated one. I choose to allow him to just be timid. He has a happy life with me and he does still run

and hide when people come in. I think that is his personality and he will always be that way. As long as he is ok with me and the other cats in the house I am fine with it.
