  1. I am sorry that your piggie is scared.  You should get him a friend since they are social animals and shouldn't be alone.  You need to interact with him daily.  Talk to him and pet him and hold him.  He is scared to be out of his cage so he just sits there.  I have a little play pen area for my piggies and they love to run around in it.  Just hold your piggy close and pet him and talk to him gently.  Guinea pigs are skittish by nature so you need to make him feel safe.  Good luck.

  2. Maybe you could put something in/next to the cage that has your scent on it. this will get it used to your smell. and talk to him softly and stroke him calmly to make him feel safe! hope i helped

  3. Always speak to him in a quiet and caring voice, stroke him gently and when he sees that you mean him no harm, he will gradually trust you

    good luck

  4. I went to help out at a guinea pig rescue and this is what the lady there used to do with nervous guinea pigs:

Buy or build a small enclosure for him so he can't run very far. Get him in there for a few minutes each day and it will help him get used to being stroked.

If you can't do that, next time you put your hand in, do it slowly and allow him to sniff your fingers so he knows it's you and he knows you won't hurt him.

    Good luck!

  5. it is perfectly normal for your guinea pig to run away when you try to get him out of the cage. i would say a guinea pigs greatest talent is dodging. i almost stood on my piggy today because of it.

when you bring him out of his cage think of where you are putting him. are there lots of noises or movement that could scare him? you never know, he might not even be scared. i currently have 2 guinea pigs. when i bring them out for floor time 1 runs around and popcorns like crazy and my timid piggy, ralph (who i almost stepped on) just follows wherever he goes. I used to only have 1 guinea pig a couple years ago. when i brought him out for floor time he would hardly ever move at all.

all guinea pigs have different personalities. one of my piggys is a totally outgoing and always running around whereas my other piggy will not come out of his hut.

the only other cause would be boredom because of lack of a guinea pig friend.

  6. Perfectly normal behavior in this timid shy little animal.Did you read up on guinea pig behavior before you got him???

" Remember that guinea pigs are prey animals which means that they are timid around new situations." quote from ther numerous thousands of web pages on guinea pigs.Put his cage in a quiet indoor spot and leave him alone.

.Do not allow kids or other animals to torture him and he'll be fine. Go to this web site for excellent nutritional info and get him some timothy hay and make sure he has lots of veggies. http://www.oxbowhay.com/index.sp

  7. give treats approach him slowly talk soft ummm and thats all i can think of ohh does he have pleanty of attention daily maybe thats the problem

  8. The activity you described honestly sounds like perfectly normal guinea pig behavior. Guinea pigs are prey animals so it is their instinct to run away from someone reaching into their living space. Many perfectly happy, tame guinea pigs run away when you try to get them out of their cages. When he is 'out' do you mean when he's out for playtime? If that's what you mean it has nothing to do with trusting you. He's not doing anything because there's nothing to do! What do you expect him to do? He needs a guinea pig playmate of the same gender to play with, guinea pigs are very social animals and are a lot more active with a cagemate.
