  1. I wonder if they will even be open on that date. Make a call!!!

  2. Chances are there won't be court on Christmas Day!

  3. Relax. In most states now a days, you call in to see if you have to go to court to be picked for jury duty. Have her read the notice and send back the portion that is required.

  4. She's going to be out of town spending the holidays with her family. I thought all the courts were closed during christmas week.

  5. If your mom has personal beliefs that go against the trail that she has jury duty for she can switch and serve another trial,  but if her duty is during the day she can go and serve and you can still have Christmas Eve

  6. Jury duty on Christmas eve and on Christmas surely you jest or surely someone else jests.

  7. I really doubt that it would ruin anyones holiday.  I've served on two juries and I was there less time than I would have thought.  Truthfully, I hope that every American would and could serve.  It is a great experience to see how our justice system works.  I have never been more proud to be an American than when I've been in a court room seeing how our legal system works first hand.  Others I've talked to feel the same way after.  It is your civic duty.  Think of it as a gift!

  8. She HAS to show up. It's her duty (i.e. the law). Chances are, they are going to tell everyone to go home and come back either after Christmas or New Years.

  9. You can't let her!!!! It is her duty. I have jury duty the week my final exams for fall semester start. I am not going to try and squirm out of it.

  10. Any jury duty notice I've ever gotten has a website and phone number to call to re-schedule your date.  I had to do that once because I was starting a new job that day.

  11. Most courts will want a really compelling reason to be excused from jury duty.  It makes me sick at heart that so many citizens will look for any excuse possible to get out of it -- and they're the same ones who turn around and insist on tougher laws to make them feel safe from criminals.  No, I'm not gonna hand you a list of excuses.
