  1. I am a dialysis patient and get two 15 gauge needles injected into my arm every monday, wednesday and friday.  Plus they stay in my arm for 3 hours and 15 minutes.  My solution is to use a lidocaine cream that I put on the injection sites about 1 hour before the injections.  This will deaden the pain or take it away all together.  Please don't use the lidocaine injection because they hurt more than the tetanus shot.  You may need a prescription from your doctor for the cream but it works.

  2. To be very honest the tetanus one was the one that hurt the most out of all the needles I had to get, but please dont be afraid, as it wont hurt nearly as much as you think it will!

when it goes in you can really only feel a prick, and then just the coldness of the needle, but its over in a second! so my advice is dont look at the needle, or what the nurse is doing, just close your eyes (I scrunch up my face >_<) and think of something else. After its out, it helps me to straight away put pressure on my arm, like squeeze it with my other hand, that helps to dull the pain for me, and it isnt as painful when you finally take your hand off :) Try to keep your arm as still as possible after the needle (even though this is hard at school) because the tetanus one hurts more afterwards than the other needles, like you have a sore arm muscle for the whole day, so try not to bump it or move the muscle (like lifting heavy things) but dont worry! its something you have to go through, and it will help you in the long run!

  3. wats up man im 13 and 2 day i had 2 get 3 shots 2 in one arm and one in the otha the first 1 didnt hurt but the last one was tha tetnus shot it maked ur arm bruise up but the shot is like a long pinch its no biggie but im shot out 3 in 1 day im hurtin

  4. I usually have people bring blow bubbles or a pinwheel into the office to distract them. If you have a mp3 player, that can help along with the bubbles.  My fav distractor? Game Boy. Works like a charm, but people get mad when they die because they had to hold still for a shot.

It feels like a big pinch more than anything else.

I always suggest moving your arm around a LOT afterwards. It helps a lot.

When you see the syringe and needle you are going to feel a lot better becuase it is so small. It isn't the worst vaccine in the world to get. I had to get the pneumococcal vaccine last year and it hurt like crazy for a month!!! Tetanus is sore for only a couple of days.

Oh, have the nurse pinch and then sort of wiggle the skin as she or he injects the vaccine.I find that helps a lot as well.

  5. it doesnt hurt that bad..

  6. at one time i was the same way and so were a lot of other people. i found that if the nurse will grab the muscle at the very top of your arm and squeeze i hardly feel it--i've had a lot like that and it works for me

  7. I'm like you a phobia of needles, and I had a tetanus shot a little while back and it wasn't as bad as i thought it was going to be. You can't really feel the needle going in the only part I felt was at the end and it was just like getting lightly punched in the arm. It is sore for a little while after but its more like a sore muscle than anything. The only thing that gets me through a shot is closing my eyes, holding my breath, and thinking really hard about something that makes me happy. Just remember the shot only lasts a second and the needle gauge is about the same size as a sewing needle.

Good Luck and have fun going back to school!

  8. it feels just like a regular shot. but afterwards it feels like a sore muscle for a few days. like you've been hit in the arm. just look away and relax, you'll be fine!

  9. It hurts like a bad skeeter bite.

Tell them to put it in your dominant arm, you will get over it a lot faster.

    LOOK AWAY!!!

  10. I like just got my tetanus shot and i didn't really suffer. it was weird because after the shot it didn't hurt like most people. but anyways. its just kinda like a long pinch. not really THAT bad..... I didnt think it was a "punch in the arm" well think of it this way......that shot can save ur life! Just look the other way. Plus ur not the only one that was scared. My friends said it hurt really bad so i was literally screaming before the shot lol. It didn't heart after the shot......... good luck :) dont worry what i do when something painful is gonna help I bite a towel!
