Question:

Scared of being slow...?

So running is my thing... All my friends who are on the CC team are pretty much faster than me. I honestly try to keep up with them but usually at the end of our runs/workouts I end up behind. And running on my own is hard...b/c I usually don't have the motivation to go very far or go at a consistent pace that will help me improve my speed. Any tips to help me get better for the upcoming season?

  1. listen to up beat music when you do it. or run on a treadmill. keep it at the same pace and listen to the upbeat music while you do it to keep your energy up, always works   =]

or run to someones house and if you do then call them and tell them you are coming so you can't back out!

  2. Run everyday, try and go a little bit farther or faster everyday, you just need to get in shape, your friends already are, and you may also feel like you are in shape from other sports, but running for a longer distance continuously is harder than running in some other sports. When I run I listen to music, it helps me go farther and faster, and I bring a watch, to time myself for how long I run, and tell myself to run for x amount of minutes, and if I walk at all, I stop the timer, and then start it when I run again. You can go here to map a route to run to run a certain distance if you don't have something to track your distance when you are actually running.

its really helpful. good luck in getting better.

  3. Listen, I'm a runner to and I noticed that you have to have the motivation if you wanna win! If you are doing it for fun and to get in shape that's cool too. I always run with the older and more advanced runners b/c I am a competitive runner, but I always used to get discouraged when I fell behind them in my workouts. The only thing you need to do is run on your own and keep saying "I can do this! This is what I really want!" say it out loud too! When i went to the park a lot of people looked at me, but it is my dream so why give it up for someone trying to get in the way? good luck!
