Am i normal?

I was rearranging my garden and I turned over a rock and there was a really Big REDBACK Spider sitting there and I screamed and ran to tell mum and i started scratching my arms because i felt like it was crawling on me and i know it was still on the rock and i didn't touch it and i always freak out when spiders(especially HUNSMANS) pop out of nowhere Is there something wrong with me or am i just paranoid about spiders?

  1. I do have a lot of mental illnesses, but im sure it has nothing to do with that, but

I AM EXACTLY like you, i freak the h**l out, and till i see the spider and even insects dead, i can't rest.

  2. I know a lot of people like that - even I'm like that.

    So it's completely normal.

  3. me too! i've had spiders everywhere this week! i had one crawl on me the past 2 nights in my bed! Plus i walked into a massive web 3 nights ago, then one came down from the house n landed on my head.

Also, after work, there was a huge spider on a web n almost walked into a web 2 nights ago.

I cant handle it, they are everywhere lately! and ON me! waaaaah! Plus, nightmares about them!`:(

  4. you have arachnophobia. i have it too. its an extreme fear of spiders. its ok, idk how to get over it. most ppl say you have to face your fear to get over it but theres no way im going to. if theres a spider in my room i cant sleep, and its real bad that in my mind i picture them being 2 or 3 times the size they really are, and i get made fun of for it by my family and friends. cuz ill see one a few inches big but to me its a foot long lol and they think im weird.

try therapy/counseling if its that bad. but im almost 17 and i still cry and scream and go to my mom when i see one, she was driving and she had to pull over because i didnt realize the car was moving and opened the door to jump out because i saw one

glad to know im not alone though. lol. you can email me or im me if you want any time but youre not weird nothigns wrong with you

    answer mine please?

  5. I am the exactly like you! i think its just normal how you react. Its just you paranoid about them.

  6. Sounds like you may have arachnidphobia, i think that's what you call it. Anyway it's a fear of spiders.

Other than that, it is absolutely normal to be afraid of spiders.

But if your that afraid of them that you won't do gardening anymroe see a doctor.

  7. It's a phobia.  Basically that means it's an irrational fear of someone or some thing.  Some might argue a fear of spiders is not entirely irrational. Afterall, some are deadly poisonous so in the wild primitive man may have had good use for a healthy fear of the eight-legged beasties.  However in modern life, there really isn't much. (Not to say a good healthy fear of hobos and widows isn't merited!)

If it's distressing to you there ARE means to treat this, and for someone as afraid of spiders as you- I can promise it would be an uncomfortable treatment.  You must be desensitized to them.  That means you're exposed over and over and over again until the panic response doesn't come anymore.  Systematic desensitization attempts to couple the stimulus (spider) with a calming or relaxed state to get you to associate a calmer state with spiders.  It has shown great results, but you really gotta want it to go through that.

I'm a severe arachnaphobe myself, but I have managed to control it to the point I can "dispatch" the spider if I'm in a controlled setting.  So I can squash one where I feel in control (not one above my head).  If they drop down on me, jump, or skitter out of something I just touched or worst of all- crawl on me- I'm still in screaming histerics climbing the walls.  I also can't stand to see people touch them and I will FREAK.  I literally cannot touch one willingly- I freeze.  So yes, it's a relatively common phobia and other people suffer from it too.  Just get it to a point you can manage it without too much panic and you'll be alright.

How are you with tarantulas?  I think it's funny but they do not bother me and I can even touch them!

  8. You're just paranoid. I get the same way.
