  1. This is a phobia that is quite common. The best thing you can do is to tell yourself that you will be fine. Actually, the best thing is to call on the heavenly Father for help. The Lord provides peace when there is none. God knows what you are dealing with, and He shall help you when you ask for it.

Also, another thing to remember is that a lot of fears go away with time. I used to be terrified of thunderstorms, which was years ago. Now I absolutely love them! I told myself that fear solves no problems.

Do keep in mind that there is nothing to fear but fear itself.

  2. Thunder storms present a certain amount of danger, that is a fact. However, you need to learn to put things in perspective.  While, lightening is a potential killer, it is not going to reach you indoors in a house with a properly installed electrical system. My Mother's house was struck by lightening years ago while they were home.  All that happened was the Central Air Conditioning system got fried.  No one was injured.  An acquaintance of mine has his house struck a few weeks ago.  Some electronic equipment was damaged by the power spike but no one was injured.  A friend of mine had his pool struck by lightening many years ago, all that resulted in was a ruined filter motor and about half the water splashed out of the pool.

The perspective is that there are many hazardous things in life.  But we accept the risk as part of life.  You can fall in your own bathtub.  You can fall down the stairs.  You can be in a traffic accident.  But you accept these risks without a second thought.  Well, when you are indoors during a thunderstorm, you are at no more risk than you would be otherwise.

Fear is a natural response to threat.  How you react to fear is what determines your quality of life.  You cannot do more to protect yourself during a thunderstorm than to be safely inside.  So, let your intellect take control of your emotions and face your fears.  In an instant, the fear will recede to its proper level.

  3. Well a lot of people are afraid of thunderstorms. Plus sometimes I am and I'm 14 years old.

  4. just stay indoors, that's the safest place to be. another thing is stay in a room with limited or no windows so you cant see any lighting. another thing to do is listen to a walkman, an ipod, or even play a handheld game system loud enough to drown out the sound of thunder. just do anything to keep your mind occupied on something else other than the storm.

  5. I feel ya, I've been the same way ever since I was a kid. Lightning can't strike insulation, so you are safe inside your home, and although thunder can be loud and scary, it can't hurt you. I always found that it helped to go into a room with no windows, such as a bathroom, and play music or bring a sibling/pet and talk to them/play with them.
