I love old Victorian houses and I've always wanted to live in one. However, some people we've talked to say I'm "sensitive", the first 14 years of my life I lived in a haunted house. I mean weird noises, lights on and off, objects moving, on many occasions what I would describe as "shadows" and a few times full blown apparitions! Everyone knew our house was haunted, eventually we moved and some weird things occasionally go on here but nothing near as bad. Anyway the former house wasn't even very old at all and I'm scared what I may be getting into fixing up an old Victorian house! Advice? And if you don't belive in ghosts just move along..I don't need to be told I'm crazy!

  1. dont u think its kind of "fun" to be able to live alongside ghosts......u can actually invite friends & relatives and let them experience it....

...i mean afterall u have been with "them" for 14 yrs!!!...tats long enuf to understand them....

    ..these "folks" are usually harmless....

  2. Just because it's old doesn't mean it will be "haunted." My grandparents old Victorian was built in 1870, no one ever experienced anything there. Not my mother growing up, not my grandparents, nor my sister or I for the many years while they still lived there. I guess the first owners had no need to stay.

And the only other ones connected to it now would be my grandparents, but I doubt they are haunting it or anything, it's not where their family is. And when my mother got the chance once to see what the new people did, there was never anything said of renovations stirring anything up...and these people ripped off the kitchen, etc.

  3. See if you can go in the house and stay for a while and see if theres any stuff that seems to be ghostly !!! I know your not crazy .. my mom has told me ghost stories about her uncle . and i really wished he still lived in out old house caus ever sice she's told me them stories i have been obsessed with seeing a ghost !!! lol ~

GOOD LUCK WITH YOUR NEW *HOPEFULLY NOT HAUNTED* HOUSE !!!! :-)

  5. Sounds like you lived in a drafty house with bad wiring.  Whoever told you you were 'sensitive' didn't do you any favors.  There's no such thing as ghosts - people have been claiming to see them for hundreds of years, but have never EVER been able to prove it or get the ghost to show up in front of a credible witness.  I'm not saying you're crazy, I'm saying you haven't really thought this through and you've perhaps been taking people a little to literally.  Next time you hear something weird, go find out what it was.  Every time I do this, there's a perfectly reasonable explanation.  Don't get scared - go check!

  6. Seeing that you believe in ghosts you will perceive them where ever you are, no doubt an old house will be worse though because there will be more poorly lit corners and strange noises coming from the attic which you will convince yourself are apparitions.

Unless the house had been fully and completely renovated the worse aspect of it will be the maintenance, the wiring and the plumbing will be dodgy and you will continually be having to fix things.

  7. I've lived in several haunted homes and it's not so bad!  I'm "sensitive," too.  Seriously, have you checked out the "new" old Victorian?  Will you be moving in there with someone?  I'd ask if you can spend the evening & night there before you move in and check it out.  Have you tried to contact a paranormal group around you?  There have been reports of paranormal activity starting in a home when remodeling is being done, so I understand your concerns.  I'd move into it anyway, but then, I LIKE ghosts, lol.  Best of luck in your new home and let us know how it goes.

  8. Not every house is haunted.  Just because it is old does not mean there is anything there.  It depends a lot on what happens in the house, good or bad.  Is there any way you can do a history on the house?  You could also ask the Realtor.  By law, in most states, they are required to tell you if the house is  haunted.  Check with them first.  They should be able to tell you something about it as well.

For instance, if some one was murdered in the house it stands a better chance of being haunted.  Or if there was years of abuse in the house, that could also cause problems.  On the other hand, if there was years of love and happy times in a house, it can also be haunted for that very reason.  Some ghosts go back to the place that they were the happiest.

Not all ghosts are bad.  Some are nice.  They are happy you are around so they can watch you live your life, effectively living a little more through you.
