  1. You should do it! At my school there wasn't any kids that got cut, and the coach spent a lot of practices helping the new swimmers and freshmen develop their strokes. Some of the teammates with experience also helped, and by the end of the season they could comfortably do all strokes and be a competitor in races. If you already have a background in swimming and know three of the strokes, you're starting out better than most others do; especially since it's butterfly you don't know. Also, I don't know when your season starts, but if it is in the winter like here, you have plenty of time to go to the pool and work on your swimming. Get someone you know on the team or who wants to start and take them with you. Good luck, I hope this helps! :)

  2. Go for it! You never know how well you'll do until you try. ;)

Depending on your high school, they might not even cut anyone, so you might not have to be the best swimmer to make it in.

Practice a lot!!!! Try your best to improve, get lots of help from coaches and other swimmers, and work on getting butterfly down.

    GOOD LUCK!!! :D

  3. Yeah go for it! You never know till you try and you might not be needed for all the strokes, just the ones you're good at. I would definitely try out.

  4. you should try out....if you try out you have nothing to lose and so much to gain

  5. When I joined my high school swimming team I had never even swam one competitive lap before. My sophmore year I was captain, as well as my junior and senior year. I didn't know how to do butterfly when I started either and I could barely swim 25yds. By the end of my senior year I was swimming 5000yds non-stop. Don't let it bother you. Of course you're going to think about quiting but don't do it, I didn't and I was captain for 3 of the 4 years I was there not bad I'd say.

  6. Go for it. You may enjoy the competition.

Good luck, don't quit. The fitness levels you can achieve will also help you.

  7. of course you should! swimming is such a great sport, and being on a team is really fun. also, a lot of people have trouble with butterfly, and your coach will help you with it. if you want, to help you to get in shape you could join your local club team, which you might even want to continue after the school season is done. swimming is a lifelong sport and you will NOT be sorry that you tried out. plus it can save your life. so DO try out!!!! good luck!

  8. Definitely! I did the same thing in 8th grade (no lessons), and then went on to swim varsity all 4 years in high school, including going to state, being captain, and mvp my senior year.  Now 13 years after high school I still swim and compete in the United States Masters swimming usms.org. It will give you a lifetime of health and fitness and if your on the shy side, competing in high school will help with your self confidence now and later in life. Most of all Have Fun!

  9. YEA!!! I did the same thing i had never swam before and ended up the number one guy on jv. as long as you can swim you could make it.
