  1. Pet Cemetary by Stephen King.. read it by flashlight like I did!

  2. The Haunting of Hill House by Shirley Jackson

  3. The Amittyville Horror and The Omen scared the sweet bajeezus out of me.

But I was about 14 when I read them, so that might be the reason. Awesome books, though. Very creepy. I remember the pages of The Amittyville Horror having flies printed on them, so that it looked like bugs were on the pages.

  4. Any book by the following:

    Stephen King

    John Saul

    James Herbert

Robin Cook - for medical scary ones

My favourite of all is The Stand by Stephen King as it could happen at anytime!

  5. House of Leaves is the scariest book ever written. Period. There's a lot of information about it here:

Be warned though; it does contain spoilers. However, the book is so unique that I found reading the article along with the book actually helped. But I didn't sleep for days after reading it!

Ignore the people thumbing down this question genuinely decide for yourself whether you will find anything scarier after you have read it

  7. Misery by Stephen King that book creeps me out.

  8. I got pretty freaked out by Stephen King's Dreamcatcher.

  9. Joan Nixon writes mysterious thrillers that may be considered 'scary'.  The three that I have read include A Deadly Game of Magic, The Seance, The Kidnapping of Christina Lattimore (this last one is not scary per say, but it is good).  She has won several awards on these books.  I hope you enjoy them.

  10. I always thought that books weren't very scary. I mean I love Stephen King..try The Shining or Cujo or etc...there's so many good ones! But I never found his books to really scare me!

The only book I've ever read that really really scared me, I mean, give me nightmares and make me feel afraid was The Exorcist.

Yes, the movie's scary of course, but the book is different...it's just soooo twisted. If you really want to scare yourself, try it.

I remember when I read it, it just got to this point where I didn't know if I could finish it. It was just so..I can't find a word to describe it! However, I did finish it obviously But I learnt alot of things from the book including religion and psychology and "the power of suggestion".

I highly encourage you to read it!

Its sort of a big book though...don't let that deter you!

  11. Anything by Stephen King is scary.

  12. The Stand by Steven King.

    i still have nightmares.
