I was on my frond porch in Fort Wayne, IN. and I saw this creepy spider. I was wandering what kind of spider this is and if it is poisonous. The white zig zags are part of the web he made.

Sorry I didn't know how to post a picture on this but here is a link to the picture I took.

  2. St Andrews Cross Spider or garden orb web spider.

Jim Z is correct about them not being dangerous.

  3. That's a Golden Silk Spider, also called a Banana Spider. They're not poisonous, and good for the garden.

  4. All spiders are poisonous to some degree, but most not to the point where they could really hurt you. The cool spider on your front porch is a female Golden garden spider, Argiope aurantia, an orb weaving spider.  Very common to see these guys in the late Summer and early Fall. Totally harmless and extremely beneficial to have around! Eat flying insects (roaches, moths, etc.) The females will lay a brown egg sac that will overwinter and the spiderlings will emerge in the Spring/early Summer and disperse.

Regarding the zig zag in silk, please click on 2nd link and go to "webs"- great info!

  5. It is a common garden spider.  It is not dangerous or agressive.
