Ok, my neighbor has a son who is autistic. He is 8 years old, and can't talk, or anything. So today football practice ended late, and my mom picked me up because I couldn't catch the bus. We are driving home, and about a mile away from our neighborhood we saw a little boy walking alone, who looked awfully similar to my neighbors son. So my mom realizes that it is him, and she tells me to go stand by him so he doesn't run away, and she'd go get my neighbor. I stood by him for like 10 mins while my mom got my neighbor, and when they came, he thanked me so much, and called me a lifesaver. In the car, he was saying that they've been looking for him for 2 hours, and that they were about to call the cops to file a missing person report. Wow, just wow. What are everyones opinions of this? Has anyone ever had a similar experience?

  1. Awwww how sweet of you girl friend

  2. Congrats to you!!

  3. Wow that is amazing good job!! keep up the good neighborly love!!

  4. My daughter has Autism and went through a phase of leaving the house at 3am while I was asleep. Luckily I heard the door creak when she opened it the first time and was able to catch her. I can't lock her in b/c she's tall enough to unlock the locks, even the ones we put at the very top of the door.  I started sleeping next to the front door.  Good thing you guys found him.  Autism is so scary, but it can be so beautiful too.

  5. That is a great thing you did to make sure he was safe until his parents got there. You are a lifesaver, anyone could've taken that child had it not been for you being there.

  6. wow. I know how u feeel. i have an autistic boy in my class.

  7. Wow..

  8. You did a really good thing. It is so scary for parents when children go missing, even more so when you know the child can't speak.

I bet they turned away for no more than a couple of minutes and he disappeared. I would have been frantic.

Keep up the good samaritan work.

  9. hmmm... if that was my son and he was non-verbal autistic, I don't think I'd wait 2 hours to call the cops!  Good thing your mom spotted him, you knows where he could've walked off to.  I've never been in a similar situation, although I have seen panicked mothers in the mall screaming their child's name... ok that's been me a few times too... I swear they need to be on leashes!  :)
