I have been searching the internet all day looking for advice about scenes of crime officers (CSI). I have a few questions that the sites I researched did not answer.

Like do CSI's get guns?

Would a degree in Biological science be addiquit?

And what are the positive and negitive factors of being a CSI?

  1. No they do not get a gun.

And it is required that you have a good knowing of Science and have a BA or higher in Science.

The negatives is that all CSI does is take photos and gather information on a scene.

positive hummmmm i dont no wanyone in the field of CSI just basic knowledge in Criminal Justice class.

  2. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scenes_of_C...

  3. Depends on the department and the position.

CSI, Crime Scene Investigators, in my department are commissioned police officers working as a detective within that unit that have received special training.  They get guns.  Their job is to go to the crime scene, analyze the scene, document the scene, and collect all the evidence available at the scene.

There are also forensic specialists within that unit, they are civilian and do not get guns.  Their job is to analyze the evidence in the lab that the detectives bring in from the scene.  They do not go to the scene.

It is beneficial, but not mandatory, to get some type of degree in science in order to become a detective in that unit.  It is mandatory to have a degree in science in order to be a forensic specialist in that unit.  They are all considered scientists, and testify as expert witnesses in their chosen scientific field.
