It all depends,  who do want to laugh at?  Is their misfortune really deserving of your entertainment?  Maybe a simple empathetic comment is more important."

Take it - but ONLY in the right circumstances.

For example:  Hitler slips on a banana skin, falls over and breaks his leg - you'd feel pretty happy about that misfortune, if of course it happened to him after he became an a*****e.

There are many more examples like that.
