Schalke 04 boss Ralf Rangnick sets sights on winning DFB Pokal – Bundesliga news
Schalke 04 manager, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Ralf-c30492 Rangnick, has stated that he is looking forward to win the DFB Pokal final against second division side MSV Duisburg and qualify for UEFA Europa League next season. The manager said that a win would put an end to a brilliant season
for the club as they reached the semi-finals of UEFA Champions League, eventually losing to Manchester United.
Schalke defeated Bayern Munich 1-0 in the semi-final of the competition at Allianz Arena courtesy a http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Berlin-c7536 on Saturday, May 21.
Rangnick insisted that he wants his side to win the competition and end the season qualifying for the Europa League. He added that the trophy would be the icing on the cake after an already impressive season for Die Knappen.
The former Hoffenheim boss stated that although his side had a dismal time in the domestic league this season, the performances in other competitions were fantastic. He was happy to secure the league status for the club as they were hovering above the relegation
zone in the last few weeks of the season.
“After securing our top-flight status we then went on to reach the semi-final of the Champions League, which was not something people may necessarily have expected. We now want to reach our third target by beating MSV Duisburg to put the crowning glory on
our season,” he was quoted as saying in an interview.
The tactician hailed the players for their determination and claimed that the club should be proud of a breakthrough season.
“If they win the DFB Pokal, the team can justifiably be proud of a great season that will go down in the club's history because no Schalke team has ever reached the semi-final of the Champions League and won the cup in the same season,” he concluded.
Schalke have finished 14th on the Bundesliga table with 40 points after winning only 11 of the 34 matches played in the season.
