Schalke 04 should face Manchester United without any worries: Former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Marcel-c23507 Desailly
Former Chelsea defender, Marcel Desailly, urges Schalke 04 to face Manchester United without any fears.
Schalke will take on Manchester United in the semi-finals of the UEFA Champions League 2010-11. Desailly believes that beating Manchester United will be a mountainous task for the German outfit.
Schalke have had a tremendous Champions League campaign this season and have made it to the semi-finals of the competition for the first time in their history. The Miners topped their group and went onto beat http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Inter-c39567 Milan 5-2 at San Siro and 7-3 on aggregate to qualify for the last four.
However, the former French international is confident that Sir Alex Ferguson’s 25-year experience will end the honey-moon period for the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Royal-95-c40387 Blues. Manchester United also topped their group and beat Chelsea in the quarter-final to setup a date with the Miners.
Desailly has praised Schalke for the spirit they have shown to overcome some of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/The-Strongest-c40725 teams on the continent. The former A.C Milan defender has urged the Germans to play without any nerves as they have nothing to lose. He added that they also have a disadvantage of playing the first-leg in their own backyard because if United manage to score at Veltins-Arena than the job will become a lot easier for them to play the second-leg at Old Trafford.
Talking to the reporters Desailly said, “Schalke are a strong ambitious team. [But] I personally do not expect that they will be able to pass through the semi-finals of the Champions League.
“I think it’s a negative that the Gelsenkirchen club will have their first game against Manchester United at home. If the opponent [United] scores, it will make it much easier for them in the return [leg] at Old Trafford.
“For me, Sir Alex Ferguson is an unstoppable train. But Schalke have already achieved a lot, so I think they will play without nerves. Therefore we will witness an interesting and exciting battle."
The first leg of the tie will be played on April, 26, 2011 at the Veltins-Arena.
