Schalke 04 versus Manchester United – Second half review: UEFA Champions League (Part 1)
Manchester United started the second half where they left off in the first half. The Red Devils’ maintained their superiority over Schalke 04 in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League semi-final as Javier Hernandez was pulled
to the ground by José Manuel Jurado near the Schalke penalty area. Ryan Giggs stepped up to take the free kick for the visiting team and his looped delivery was fantastically headed onwards by http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Michael-Carrick-c25282. However, Manuel Neuer denied Manchester United
yet again as the ball went out of play for a corner kick.
The corner was taken by Antonio Valencia who played it short to Ryan Giggs. Giggs then played a one-two with the Ecuadorian winger before cutting inside on his right foot. In doing so, he opened up more space for himself inside
the Schalke penalty area. Nonetheless, the Welsh wizard was wayward with his finish despite the fact that the whole goal was at his mercy in the 48th minute of the second half.
In the 51st minute, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Ryan-Giggs-c31985 slipped in Javier Hernandez in behind the Schalke 04 defence and the Mexican striker made no mistake in dispatching the ball past the on-rushing Manuel Neuer. However, the goal was disallowed by the
referee as the linesman on the far side had his flag up signalling that Hernandez was in an offside position when the ball was dispatched towards him.
In the 52nd minute, Schalke 04 had a rare sight of United's goal as http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/José-Manuel-Jurado-c19383 fired his first volley wide of Edwin Van der Sar’s goal. Manchester United’s main creative influence in the second half was their
auxiliary striker, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Antonio-Valencia-c6345. This
strategy worked well for the Red Devils’ but they were frustrated by http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Manuel-Neuer-c23424’s fine display for immaculate goalkeeping for the home side.
In the 53rd minute, Schalke opted to conduct their first substitution of the match as http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Alexander-Baumjohann-c4817. The German midfielder made way for his compatriot in the central midfield department
for Die Knappen. In the 58th minute, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Fabio-c13152 da Silva became the first Manchester United player to go into the referee’s book for a late tackle on Jurado.
