Schalke boss Huub Stevens disappointed with defeat against Borussia Dortmund
Schalke 04 boss Huub Stevens has expressed his disappointment on the 2-0 defeat to Borussia Dortmund this weekend. The manager claimed that his side certainly did not play the best football and failed to create enough chances of
scoring. He insisted that a good result could have been great for his side as they would have climbed the ladder but the players made sure it did not happen.
Die Knappen suffered their fifth defeat of the current season in the Bundesliga as Borussia Dortmund got the better of them at the Signal Iduna Park on Saturday. http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Felipe-Santana-c13545 scored for the home side in
a game which saw four Schalke players being booked.
Stevens insisted that it was a sorry performance from his team and claimed that the team has to be more consistent in its performances if it wants to finish in the top four at the end of the season. He added that many players’
performances were below par in the match which is surely disappointing.
“If you want to survive here, you have got to be at your best and we know that. There were far too many of our players who were on the level they usually play at,” he was quoted as saying in an interview.
The tactician criticized the team by claiming that it looked like a bunch of schoolboys competing against the German champions. However, he remained hopeful that the team will draw some lesions from the loss and will be able to
make a strong comeback in the coming week.
“In the first half, there were phases when my team of adults looked like a team of schoolboys and that is not on. I hope that this is a good lesson to the lads. Nevertheless, we should not be just surrendering like we did in the
first half. That was too little,” he concluded.
Schalke will next face Steaua Bucharest in the UEFA Europa League on Thursday before hosting league bottom side FC Augsburg on Sunday. They are in fifth place on the Bundesliga standings table with 25 points from 14 games and are
four points adrift of the top.
