Schalke defender Benedikt Howedes claims Manchester United and Barcelona are the best in Europe
Schalke defender, Benedikt Howedes, has claimed that Manchester United and Barcelona are the best teams in Europe and deserve to be in the final of the UEFA Champions League. He stated that his side had a great campaign in Europe and the players should be
proud of their feat.
Schalke were defeated by Manchester United 4-1 at Old Trafford in the return leg of the Champions League semi-final. The Germans were knocked out eventually with a 6-1 aggregate score line, ending their hopes of a first ever Champions League final.
Howedes hailed his side for a brilliant season in Europe’s Premier competition. He admitted that Die Knappen were emphatic for most of the campaign except for the two fixtures against Manchester United in the last-four phase.
“We played a great Champions League season. In the last two matches you could see that Man United were better and deserved to reach the final,” the defender was quoted as saying in an interview.
The 23-year-old praised Manchester United for their impressive attacking football and congratulated them on reaching the final for the third time in three years. He claimed that the Red Devils were a better side than Inter and were more composed at the back.

“I'm looking forward to the final between Barcelona and Manchester [United]. We would have liked to be there, for sure, but these teams deserve to be there. They're the best teams in Europe,” the central defender concluded.
