Die Knappen suffered their first home defeat of the league season as they lost out to leaders Bayern Munich this past weekend.
The http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Toni-Kroos-c35425 and Thomas Muller scored for the away side whereas the hosts failed to
convert any of their opportunities.
Benedikt Howedes, Schalke’s captain, claimed that Bayern were certainly the better side throughout the course of the 90 minutes and admitted that the visitors deserved all three points. He insisted that his team had a host of chances
in the first-half, but the players failed to take their opportunities.
The defender admitted that Jupp Heynckes’ men took their chances in the second-half and scored two early goals, turning the game in their favour. He stated that Schalke deserved to lose as it was a very unconvincing performance
from them after the interval.
“Let’s not forget we’ve just played Bayern Munich, one of the best teams in Europe. It was really difficult for us to play our game against them. At the end of the day, and based on the second half, it’s the right result,” he was
quoted as saying in an interview.
On the other hand, Howedes’ teammate http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Jermaine-Jones-c18363 also lamented the missed chances in the first period and insisted that the team was punished for not taking the opportunities coming their way. He added that a team has to take
their chances against a side such as Bayern Munich; otherwise the opposition will punish you.
“We played well in the first half, but we made individual errors in the second half, and you’ll always be ruthlessly punished if you do that against Bayern. That’s what happened again today,” he concluded.
Schalke will play hosts to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/1-FSV-Mainz-05-c38166 on Tuesday, September 25, at home as they look to get things back on track. Huub Stevens’ men are currently fifth on the Bundesliga standings table with seven points from the first four games
played. They are behind the likes of Bayern, Eintracht Frankfurt, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Hannover-96-c39492 and Borussia Dortmund.
