With the Dutchman’s contract due to expire in 2013, a big-money offer is expected from other European outfits by the end of this season.
Huntelaar joined the Royal Blues in 2010 and has had a successful stint with the club thus far. The player has been in impressive form of late but he is yet to sign an extension to his current contract.
It is believed that the Dutch international has declined an extension to his contract and is eyeing a move elsewhere.
However, Heldt has vowed to fight until the end in order to get the striker’s signature. With Raul’s departure also imminent at the end of this campaign, Huntelaar’s stay would certainly mean a lot for the club.
While talking to Bild, the Sporting Director further enthused:
"We want to prematurely bind him to us beyond 2013. If Klaas-Jan keeps playing as he has, offers will probably come from top clubs. But he has had negative experiences at Real Madrid and AC Milan. This could be to our advantage."
Huntelaar has been in fine form this season and has netted 14 goals from 15 appearances thus far. Having joined the Veltins-Arena outfit in 2010, the attacker has amassed 22 goals from 39 league games.
On the other hand, Heldt also expressed his wish to retain Raul Gonzalez, whose contract will expire at the end of this term.
