Schalke insist Raul will stay despite rumours that the striker is close to a Premier League switch
Schalke have insisted that striker Raul will be staying at the club despite strong interest from Premier League side Blackburn Rovers and French giant Paris Saint-Germain. The club has confirmed that the former Real Madrid player
has no plans to leave Veltins-Arena and will be playing with the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Royal-95-c40387 Blues in the future.
The former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Rovers-c40385 had an official bid turned down for the striker as they looked for a striker before the summer
transfer window closes at the end of August.
Raul was left out of the club’s European squad which faced http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/HJK-c39532 Helsinki in the qualifier. The decision sparked rumours that the striker is on his way out but the club General Manager Horst Heldt cleared the air by
claiming that manager http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Ralf-c30492 Rangnick did not want to risk the player on the artificial surface.
“We did not want to run the risk of Raul getting injured because we will play on an artificial pitch in Helsinki,” Heldt was quoted as saying in an interview.
Meanwhile, Chairman Clemens Toennies admitted that if the striker wanted a move out the club would have definitely considered it as it is potentially his last year in football. But he claimed that the Spaniard has not put in any
request to leave and wants a stay. He hailed the player’s impact last season and added that he is looking forward for another bright season with him.
“If Raul was asking to have a transfer to another club, in what could well become the final year of his career, we would certainly consider this. This is however not the case and therefore we are not mulling over this. http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Raul-c30652 is
a world-class player and Schalke 04 enjoyed an incredible campaign with him last season,” he concluded.
Raul scored an impressive 19 goals last season in a total of 51 appearances for Die Knappen in his maiden Bundesliga campaign.
