Schalke manager Huub Stevens delighted with Leverkusen win- Bundesliga news
Schalke 04 manager Huub Stevens has expressed his delight on winning against Bayer Leverkusen in the recent Bundesliga clash at the BayArena. He insisted that the victory could be vital in the club’s running for the title and admitted
that it was a very important match to win under the current circumstances.
Die Knappen downed Robin Dutt’s Bayer Leverkusen at the BayArena on Sunday courtesy a Jefferson Farfan goal in the dying moments of the match. The Peruvian winger’s strike meant that the team secured all three points at the end
of the day and climbed the Bundesliga standings table to the third place. The club is only behind Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund on the table.
Schalke have 18 points from the ten games played with six wins and four losses so far in the season.
Stevens was overjoyed after the win and praised both teams for playing an excellent match in the end. He admitted that there could have been more goals scored if both sides had taken their chances.
The tactician admitted that his side was a bit luckier as they took advantage of the only mistake Bayer made throughout the course of 90 minutes.
"We're all very happy to win this game. The crowd at Leverkusen witnessed a very good match despite only one goal being scored. The game could have produced more goals. At the end of the day, we might have been a bit luckier and
benefited from Bayer being disorganised at a set piece,” he was quoted as saying in an interview.
The boss hailed Jefferson Farfan for scoring a brilliant goal in the end to secure victory for his side. He praised all the layers for putting in a sensational performance and was confident that the team will go a long way this
season after a good start.
"Jefferson Farfan’s goal was fantastic, but I don’t want to pick out any individual players. I’m happy with the whole team’s performance. We’ve taken another step forward,” he concluded.
Schalke will next face Hoffenheim at the Veltins-Arena and will be in search of their seventh win of the season on the league.
