The Royal Blues are hopeful of making a winning comeback after the shock loss at the hands of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/SC-Freiburg-c40462 last weekend.
Schalke suffered a defeat at Freiburg this weekend which has further intensified the chase for the final UEFA Champions League spot. This season’s relegation contenders, Freiburg, played hosts to the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Royal-95-c40387 Blues on Saturday at
the badenova-Stadion with the hosts winning by a 2-1 margin.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Daniel-Caligiuri-c9921 scored for the home side whereas Teemu Pukki earned a consolation for the visitors.
The club’s general manager, Horst Heldt, expressed his disappointment at the loss. He opined that his players took the game lightly and eventually had to bear the consequences. Heldt mentioned that Schalke were extremely unlucky
to have gone a goal down against the run of play and rued missed chances throughout the course of the game.
Heldt stated that the first goal shattered the confidence of his side as the players seemed clueless for remaining part of the game. While talking to official club website, Heldt further added:
"We conceded a goal out of absolutely nowhere on 18 minutes. After that we stopped playing football and at times we were no longer in the game. Considering our high expectations it simply wasn't enough today."
Schalke midfielder, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Jermaine-Jones-c18363, also showed his frustration on his side’s defeat. He thought that his side must not have lost to the relegation threatened club as the defeat has brought Bayer Leverkusen back in contention for
a fourth-place finish.
Jones admitted that Freiburg’s opening goal changed the game. He insisted that it was the goal was the turning point of the game and hailed the host’s decent home form in the past three weeks.
"The goal completely ruined our game plan. Considering what's expected of us we shouldn't allow ourselves to be beaten by a side who are bottom of the table," Jones added.
On the other hand, Royal Blues midfielder, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Lewis-Holtby-c22175 believes that Schalke will return strongly after the defeat. "We've often proven that we're a quality side. Now we just have to become a more tight-knit unit," Holtby concluded.
Schalke are currently fourth in the league standings with 44 points from 24 games and are fighting hard to claim the fourth spot alongside Leverkusen and Werder Bremen.
