Schalke striker Klaas-Jan Huntelaar is determined to qualify for the UEFA Champions League next season. He insisted that the club needs to start the season well in order to compete and finish amongst the top clubs.
Huntelaar expressed his delight on returning from injury in time for the DFB Pokal final against MSV Duisburg. The striker scored a brace and helped his side secure a 5-0 victory to lift the trophy. He added that it was a wonderful experience and scoring
two goals was icing on the cake.
“Yes, I was happy just to be able to play after being sidelined for so long. And scoring two goals on top of that was great of course,” he was quoted as saying in an interview.

in the world after the performances last season and that it would be great if Schalke played in the competition every year.
“We have to get back in the mix at the top of the Bundesliga and earn a place in the Champions League. We've played there, we got a real taste for it and it's a tournament we'd like to be competing in regularly,” he continued.
The Dutch international also quashed rumours of a possible exit in this summer’s transfer window, claiming that he is happy at Veltins-Arena. The attacker also added that not playing in Europe could add extra determination among the players and hoped that
the team does well in the next campaign.
“I don't want to leave, just because we're not playing in the Champions League next year. I'm definitely staying at Schalke,” he concluded.
Huntelaar scored 13 goals in his 35 appearances for Schalke in his maiden season at the club. The 27-year old also has 26 international goals to his name from 44 caps.
