Schalke 04 general manager, Horst Heldt, claims the Bundesliga outfit have not agreed a new contract with prolific attacker http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Klaas-Jan-Huntelaar-c21175. The Dutch star was the top scorer in the domestic league last season and his current
deal will run out at the end of the campaign.
The former Real Madrid and AC Milan star is reportedly a target of top European clubs as he will be a free agent this summer, and have performed exceptionally well for club and country last year. However, the German side know the
worth of the attacker and are desperate to keep the player in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Germany-c2904.
The Miners revealed that contract negotiations have not yet been fruitful and the striker is nowhere near in signing a contract extension with the Gelsenkirchen side. The deal has been under immense speculation and he was expected
to leave the Bundesliga team in the summer transfer window.
"The proposed contract extension of Klaas-Jan Huntelaar remains one of the hottest issues around,” he was quoted as saying in an interview.
Heldt stated that no decision has been agreed about when to finally talk regarding the contract. The club chairman Clemens Tonnies insisted that his side have already prepared themselves in case the forward decides to exit the
team, and have started to find replacements for the talented attacker.
“We are still unable to finalise any concrete schedule with regard to it," the former Germany international added.
"It's our obligation not to go for broke in this affair. We also have to make sure we are aware of alternative solutions, just if it comes to the worst of all," the former Koln and Stuttgart playmaker finally concluded.
Tonnies suggested that they will not be sad if the player chooses to sign for another club. Huntelaar has scored two goals in the Bundesliga this season and was also on target in their UEFA Champions League win over Olympiakos.
He has 58 caps for his country.
