Schalke officials seem desperate to keep hold of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Raul-c30652 Gonzalez and are considering offering him an added incentive as part of the new deal.
Raul’s contract with the German club is set to expire at the end of this campaign and he is linked with a return to Spain. However, a few Qatari clubs have also expressed interest in the former Real Madrid star, and he is expected
to move to the Middle East.
The striker previously intended to move to his old club, Real Madrid, for the remainder of his career, but Los Blancos are seemingly not interested in bringing the Spaniard back.
Raul currently earns 7 million Euros a year, out of which around 5 million Euros come from Madrid as part of his bonus deal. The deal will expire after the end of this season and the Royal Blues have already excused from matching
this amount. As a result, the Spaniard might part ways with the club after seeing out his contract.
The attacker is fresh from a hat-trick against Werder Bremen at the weekend and has taken his tally to 10 goals for the season from 17 league appearances until now.
Schalke Sporting Director Horst Heldt has revealed that the club want to retain the striker beyond his current deal and will come up with a renewed offer in January with an incentive of making him the club’s future ambassador.
While talking to Sport1, Heldt further elaborated:
"He plays first class football and the fans love him. I do not know yet what his demands are. But contracts can indeed be made very creatively."
Raul has been a consistent performer for the Royal Blues since landing at the Veltins-Arena in 2010 and has bagged 23 league goals from 51 appearances thus far. The striker is currently enjoying a month long winter break and will
return to action later in January.
