Schalke Chairman Clemens Tonnies has admitted that it would be difficult to win the title this year as the team is still in a rebuilding process. He added that the fans should be realistic after a good start to the season. However,
he remained hopeful that the current form continues throughout the season and Die Knappen fight for the honours.
Schalke currently sit in second place on the Bundesliga standings table with nine points and are behind Bayern Munich, only on goal difference. The club has won three of the four matches played and has come back strongly considering
the opening day defeat to Stuttgart.
Tonnies claimed that there will be setbacks this season and insisted that the fans should be prepared for anything. He praised the players for a brilliant start to the new campaign and claimed that the team is hungry for more success.
“We are still going to experience setbacks. That has to be expected. But the lads are hungry and a great team is being formed and there is a great euphoria at the club that will carry us forward a fair way, but we are not going
to end the season where we are now,” he was quoted as saying in an interview.
