The manager claimed that the team did not play the best football and still lack consistency as the first-half of the season comes to an end.
Stevens admitted that it was a lucky win for Schalke against Hertha http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Berlin-c7536 this past week and that the display could have been much better. He added that the side needs to be more consistent in their showings if it has to challenge
for the honours.
Die Knappen downed the Berlin giants at the Olympiastadion courtesy goals from http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Klaas-Jan-Huntelaar-c21175 and Teemu Pukki in the first-half. The visitors were sloppy throughout the course of 90 minutes and missed a host of chances to
score. In the end, they won with a 2-1 score line but the margin of the win could have been larger.
The former Red Bull Salzburg boss was just satisfied with the win but admitted that the attackers were sloppy with the finishing. The coach claimed that there could have been at least four goals scored in the match but the match
went down to the wire, which is not good.
Stevens remained hopeful that the players will learn from their mistakes in the match and will comeback strongly in the future games to keep up to the likes of Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund for the Bundesliga title.
“You have to be happy with an away win. We had the chance to score a second and third goal early on, but we didn't and that put us under pressure. We can't make those same mistakes in the future, we need more stability,” he was
quoted as saying in an interview.
Meanwhile, Markus Babbel was happy with the performance and admitted that he drawn positives from the match. He insisted that there has been great improvement in the performances and that the team just needs a bit of luck to succeed.
“The boys gave everything so I can't criticise them at all. We just needed a little bit of luck,” Babbel added.
Schalke ended their UEFA Europa League group stage with a 3-0 win over Maccabi Haifa on Wednesday, winning Group J with 14 points.
