The Schalke manager has expressed his disappointment on his side’s shock loss at the hands of relegation contenders, SC Freiburg, this weekend.
Die Knappen suffered their eighth league defeat this past weekend when they lost to SC Freiburg with a 2-1 margin at the badenova Stadium. http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Daniel-Caligiuri-c9921 scored for the hosts whereas Teemu Pukki pulled in one for the visitors late in the match.
Stevens stated that his team missed innumerable chances throughout the course of 90 minutes and deserved to lose the game in the end as they were way below the mark. The manager added that his side missed two great chances in the opening 15 minutes which, if converted, could have changed the result of the game.
The former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/PSV-c40281 Eindhoven boss admitted that the opposition is a great team when attacking on the counter and they took the only two opportunities they had. He stressed that Die Knappen will have to improve drastically in the remaining games of the season if they have any chance of ending in the top four.
“We started well but unfortunately we didn't take the two good chances we created in the first 15 minutes. Freiburg, in contrast, took the lead with their very first opportunity. Although we had some opportunities in the first half and one or two in the second, overall we didn't do enough. It wasn't a good performance,” he was quoted as saying in an interview.
On the other hand, Freiburg boss Christian Streich was ecstatic with the victory and claimed that the win could be vital in his team’s chances of surviving in the first division this season. He added that it was a well deserved win for the hosts and is hopeful that the winning momentum continues.
“We were able to score the opening goal, for example. After the break we found a good rhythm and kept the Schalke defence busy. We've been left pulling our hair out so often this season so we'll take this win,” he added.
